4e D&D PHB index

Trying to find something in the PHBOk, so we’ve all seen the index in the 4e Player’s Handbook, and many of us have noticed that it’s not the most useful thing in the world. So, I’ve been working on a comprehensive index for the PHB. Now, I realize I’m opening myself up to a lot of criticism, but I think the end result will be worth it, and any complaints can be addressed in blog time rather than publishing time.

I’ve started threads at EN World and Gleemax asking for input into the index (which is mostly finished, but I’d like to know how far to take it).

Feel free to leave a comment here, or at one of the threads above, and I’ll see what I can do.

Just gave it a test run. Very good job!

On a more general note, I’ve been reading The Gamer Dome for a couple of months now. Keep up the good work!

Cool Tempor, thanks for the kind words. I’m always happy to hear from fellow hobby gamers from other countries! :)

Very nice. A comprehensive index is the one thing I missed most about the 4e PHB.

Were you planning on compiling a DMG index as well? Just curious.

Yep Ninetail, I’m going to follow up the PHB index with one for the DMG. I want to get some feedback on the PHB version first, and I thought it was the most important one to get out first. :)

I get the impression that there was a new intern at Wizards and he was put in charge of the Index. I can see him sitting in his cube playing WoW most of the day and finally realizing that his deadline for the index was due in 24 hours. Having never been a gamer himself, he had no real idea how much the table of contents and the index are used by both players and DMs. This would definitely be one of those times for a “this will go on your permanent record” talks by a supervisor.

Ha, Mark, it’s certainly comforting to think that was the case. :)

Great! It’s very much needed. Thank you!

Now all we need is someone to add the missing Glossary and the PHB becomes usable :)
