Download the 4e Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide index

Yes, it’s finally here!

The odyssey began when I mentioned offhand that if someone bought me a copy of the 4e FRCG I’d index it, because I had no intention of purchasing it myself. Well, some virtuous reader sent me a copy of the book by purchasing it off my Amazon wishlist, and so it was time to live up to my part of the bargain!

Unfortunately, it took me much longer than I anticipated. Part of that was some real life upheaval that required my attention, part of it was because the task of indexing a campaign setting book is much less straightforward than doing a pure rulebook like the Player’s Handbook. Nevertheless, I stand here triumphant tonight, ready with a copy of my index for the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide.

Download the 4e Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide index here.

Just like my 4e PHB index, I have a few design notes, some of which are similar to the old notes.

Design Notes

Rule #1: Be Thorough. This time thoroughness really meant contextualizing the campaign setting information properly. I decided to leave all of the sub-planes, like Demonweb Pits, under their main plane to make for easy reference, but I also broke them out into their own entries. I tried to think of how people would be looking for terms, and then covered those possibilities. I don’t think any entry appears more than twice, and most aren’t doubled up, but where I felt it necessary I did it. I don’t think things got too cluttered by it.

Rule #2: Don’t Presume: Again I tried to make this index as broadly useful as possible, and so I included a ton of things I might not ever have found a use for myself.

Rule #3: Legacy Entries: Some things needed to be pointed out simply because more seasoned veterans of the setting may be stuck in old ways of thinking about the world. So, if something used to be important, but no longer had the focus it once would have, I went ahead and included it in the index.

Well, there you have it. Feel free to suggest alterations, additions, and subtractions, or even whole new sub-indexes in the comments, or by emailing me.

Shamelessness Ahead, Proceed With Caution

this is really awesome, are you planning on a FR Players guide or the DMG. I know I’m really grateful for this one and the PHB. Thanks again

Ladybam, it’s all about demand at this point. I haven’t really heard anyone clamoring for any of the other books, and I did the FRCG as an experiment. The FR Player’s Guide would have to be donated, since I’m not planning on buying any 4e FR stuff. Although I haven’t scoured it, the DMG index and ToC actually seem adequate, since the book is more expository. But maybe I’m wrong.

If people start emailing me or posting that they want a certain book done, then I’ll certainly consider doing it. Thanks for stopping by and for the kind words!
