The Gamer Dome - Making a Game Out of Game Design

June 27th, 2008 at 12:23 pm

EN World 2 has arrived!

Two and a half years in the making, EN World is reborn! For those of you who don’t visit it or haven’t heard of it, EN World is the premiere D&D/RPG community on the Web. It bills itself as a place for news and reviews, and while you’ll find better syndicated gaming news elsewhere, their reviews database is incredible. In my opinion, there is simply no better place to go to ask questions about D&D or d20, to play by post, or to just sit around and chat about games and things.

The newly relaunched site includes a technology upgrade, blogs, a new look, and many more features. Some of the new features are being rolled out over the next few days (not the next few months, like some people we know, but things are looking great so far. I especially like the new Submit a Scoop interface, although I’ve already posted a few suggestions in the Meta forum over there.

So if you haven’t been, or haven’t been in a while, I’d suggest you take a look at the new EN World 2 and see if you can’t fit it into your daily browsing (after The Gamer Dome, of course!).

While you’re talking about EN World, you should have pointed out that it’s pronounced E. N. World. The E and the N stand for Eric Noah, who created a 3rd edition news site nearly 10 years ago now. Morrus took over for Eric Noah back in, oh, 2002 or so, and changed the name of the site.

Noobs tend to call the place En World, which makes them stand out. It also makes them wrong! :D

Why the attack? You seem a bit sensitive for some reason. Did someone at ENWorld hurt you so you need to lash out at new people to the site?

Sorry you thought it was an attack. It wasn’t intended to be. I’ve heard people ask why EN World has such a bizarre name, and if you don’t know the history, then the name sure isn’t intuitive. I probably should have left off the last two sentences of my comment. :)

Honestly, I don’t much care about the layout of the new site. It just feels wrong somehow. It reminds me of something I don’t like, but just can’t remember clearly. (sounds like the start of a horror game…)
Also, I don’t like the idea of paying large amounts of money to be able to post and search in the forums. ($40 a year for full access, or $7 for 3 months of search only.)
I understand the need to pay for hosting, but the prices aren’t reasonable, nor is the restriction of search.

Hm, I wonder why Brainygrrl’s comments are pulling my avatar?

Anyone familiar enough with how Gravatar works to troubleshoot that?

I’ve been going to EN-World since the day it opened its doors, I was one of the first posters there back in the old days, and I call EN-World, not E-N-World….
