Well, today is the day that Keep on the Shadowfell releases, although I won’t be getting mine for another month or so (yeah, what kind of alpha gamer am I? Answer: one that’s finishing up a campaign over the next month, so I just ordered the books online).
There was a great post over at the soon-to-be-renamed DMs Blog about how Dungeons and Dragons Geeks are Behind the Times. It was all about a subject I’ve been pondering lately, how Dungeons and Dragons, and roleplaying in general, is underrepresented in the blogosphere. D&D players seem locked into a forums frame of mind while the rest of the world moves to blogs.
I’m wondering if there isn’t some way to combine multiple sources of information input and output, sorta like combination sites such as Penny Arcade. I’ll be trying something new very soon, and I hope that you all will participate, and invite others to do so. Though no one knew it at the time, D&D was going to help define entertainment for the next three decades. During that time period, though, roleplayers have let themselves be victims of nostalgia and clinging to modes that are dated and outside the mainstream.
It’s time roleplayers pushed themselves to the cutting edge once again. I hope The Gamer Dome can help make that happen.
